The single strongest predictor of whether a transition sticks.

What do you burn to achieve once this is done, the thing that makes the whole transition worth it even if it's hard? Is this move driven mainly by pull toward the target field, or push away from your current one? In ten years, what would you regret more: trying and failing, or never trying?

4 · Readiness, Competency Transfer

Which of your current competencies transfer directly to the target role, and which are genuine skill gaps you haven't closed yet? Have you tested your capability in the target field through real exposure, or is your confidence based on adjacent experience alone?

Track Record & Credibility

Can you point to quantifiable outcomes a hiring panel in the target field would recognise as directly relevant? Does your professional narrative form a coherent story, or does it require explaining away the pivot? Have you validated demand for your specific profile in the target field, or are you assuming it exists?

Financial & Risk Readiness

What's your fully-costed runway if compensation resets to entry-level in the new field for 12-24 months? Have you modelled the realistic compensation trajectory, including how long re-attaining parity typically takes?

Network & Market Access

How many substantive relationships do you hold inside the target field, people who could open doors, not just contacts?
